The latter was founded in 1939 by Gita Peller, a Jewish refugee and corsetiere who had fled Hungary in the early 1930s – legend has it with corsetry samples in her suitcase – and Bertha Rigby, who had given Gita a home when she had arrived in Britain in 1936. The company began as a bespoke corsetry business, with one store located in the heart of London. Over time Rigby & Peller used its technical know-how to focus on the perfect fit. In 1960 the Royal Warrant was granted to Rigby & Peller by HM Queen Elizabeth II; in 1982 new owner June Kenton became Grantee of the Royal Warrant as corsetiere to the Queen. Today, Rigby & Peller has expanded to Germany, Spain and Denmark as well as Hong Kong.
